January 14th, 2017 – Senior Resource Advisor, Gail Lansidel and Marie Espinola, Executive Director, Alzheimer Foundation, Fresno County Behavioral Health. They both have many years of experience helping families discover the many options for continuing care for our loved ones. They will share about our choices from in-home to skilled nursing and hospice, including counseling and funding availability.

February 11th, 2017 – Our regular meeting will be replaced with the 2017 Parkinson’s Summit, see this page for more information.

March 11th, 2017 – At our March meeting we will break into smaller groups to provide each other with more individualized and one-on-one support.

April 8th, 2017 – Our speaker is Claire Dias, RD, CDE. As a Registered Dietician and Certified Diabetes Educator, Claire is a food and nutrition expert who has been working with Dr. Cong Zhi Zhao at UCSF Fresno’s University Neurology Center.
She assists people with PD and their families to plan healthy, individualized and satisfying meals.

May 13 – Susana Rodriguez, MA Education/Development Coordinator, Valley Caregivers Resource Center, will help us understand: how to get help at home, questions to ask, and the transitions that we can expect. She will also cover Adult Day Care options in our area. 

June 10 – We are excited to have Dr. Beate Ritz give us some of the results of the PEG study (describing why there may be so many PD diagnoses in the Central Valley). This is of particular interest to those of us who have been participating in this important study.

July 8 – Dr. Laurice Yang MD, Movement Disorders Specialist, Clinical Asst. Professor, Neurology, Stanford University, will give us detailed information on the option of the Deep Brain Stimulation surgery for PD and what the future holds.

September 9th – Instead of having a guest speaker, we will be breaking into smaller groups to provide each other with more individualized support including a special Women with Parkinson’s Group. Our small group sessions are a great time to meet one another and share resources! We will also have a special time of remembrance for members who have passed on.

October 14th – Marie Espinola, Director, Alzheimer Foundation, Central CA; will offer help and coping strategies for those facing cognitive and memory impairment. We will also have a panel discussion with a variety of professionals in the field.

November 11th – Dr. Jeri Williams, neurologist and movement disorders specialist from Bakersfield will speak on Non-motor symptoms of Parkinson’s, including hallucinations and delusions. Come with your questions regarding this subject.

December 9th – Our Annual Holiday Potluck!
